This e-booklet is specifically designed to assist cyclists become more flexible over a 9 week period. It is aimed at those who wish to improve their suppleness using a progressive approach to stretching.
In our daily lives we perform many actions using our body including sitting, lying, movement and sport. All of these actions use the flexibility in our joints and the muscles surrounding them to perform the task required. As we age our bodies become less supple and our joints stiffen through lack of mobility around the joint and degradation of the joint itself in the form of arthritis (Howley & Franks 2003).
I believe we can help to slow this stiffness and degradation in the joints down by performing simple stretches over our lifetime and remain healthier throughout our lives. Whilst not neglecting other areas of our life e.g. nutrition, exercise and spiritual growth we can remain healthier for much longer. This booklet should be only one part of a programme that improves your health and well being for the better.
Remember that the more you look after your body the better performance on the bike; this stretching programme should help one of these areas. You should also be concerned with your diet, training programme, mental preparation, core stability programme and also ensuring that you receive regular massage. All these points will make you stronger, healthier and should have a positive effect on your physical ability on the bike.
